Model Requirements: Height, Measurements and Age — What Actually Matters
Few questions come up more often than this one: what does it actually take to become a model? Most people picture a single, rigid checklist — a precise height, exact measurements, a strict cut-off age. The truth is more nuanced and, honestly, far more encouraging. Requirements exist, but they vary by division, by market, and by the kind of work you are suited to. Here is an honest breakdown of what really matters — height, measurements and age — without the myths.

Height: the one number people worry about most
High-fashion runway and editorial work does lean tall — the classic range for women on the high-fashion runway is roughly 173–180 cm. But that is one narrow corner of a very large industry. Commercial campaigns, e-commerce, beauty and creator work all have far more flexible standards, and most new faces are not headed for the runway at all.
- High-fashion & runway: usually taller, around 173 cm and up
- Commercial & e-commerce: a much wider range — proportion matters more than absolute height
- Beauty & hair: the focus is your face, so height is secondary
If you sit below the runway range, it does not close the door. It simply points you toward a different lane where your look is exactly right.
Measurements: the truth behind "90-60-90"
The famous "90-60-90" is a cultural shorthand, not a rule anyone enforces. Agencies look for healthy, balanced proportion — not a magic set of numbers. For new faces, what matters is that your measurements are natural and consistent with a healthy body, never the result of an extreme diet.
- Be honest about your real measurements — accuracy helps everyone
- Healthy and natural always beats chasing an arbitrary target
- Curve and commercial work actively celebrate a fuller range of shapes
A good agency will never ask you to lose weight in an unhealthy way. If anyone does, treat it as a warning sign.
Age: when to start and the rules for under-18s
You can start young, but earlier is not automatically better. Many fashion new faces are first scouted between roughly 14 and 22 — yet commercial and creator work has no upper ceiling at all, and people of every age are booked every day.
- Fashion new faces: often 14–22, but this is a guideline, not a hard rule
- Commercial & creator work: every age is bookable
- Under 18: a parent or guardian must be involved at every step and signs on your behalf
This guardian rule is non-negotiable and exists entirely for your protection. Andrews represents women and new faces, and we hold to it without exception.
The Creators division plays by different rules
For influencers, UGC and content creators, the classic measurements barely apply. What clients want here is personality, authenticity, an easy presence on camera and the ability to communicate clearly. Your audience, your comfort in front of a phone and your creativity outweigh any centimetre count.
If runway numbers never described you but you light up on camera, the Creators path may be exactly where you belong.
What matters more than any measurement
Beyond the numbers, the things that genuinely move a career forward are within reach of almost anyone willing to work at them:
- Well-kept skin, hair, teeth and nails
- Good proportion and how you photograph — being photogenic is not the same as being conventionally pretty
- Punctuality, reliability and a calm, professional manner
- A willingness to learn and to take direction on set
These count for more than a perfect height, because they are what make you easy and pleasant to book again.
What if you don't fit the "standard"?
Here is the honest part: not everyone fits high-fashion runway, and that is completely fine — it is the narrowest lane in an enormous industry. The right agency tells you honestly which lane suits you, rather than taking your money to chase the wrong one.
Keep one safety rule in mind as you explore: a genuine agency never charges you a fee to join, and never asks for nude or swimwear photos. If you would like to understand the industry before you apply, our guide walks through it step by step.
